Working in the Federated Workspace
Working in the Federated Workspace
This section describes changes in how Admins and users work in the multisite workspace created by a Platform Federation.
All Repositories are Federated Repositories
Q : What happened to the options to create and modify a federated repository?
Q : How do I add or remove a repository on a site?
A : Federation is the default behavior for all repositories in the multisite workspace - and repositories are provisioned and synced by the Platform Federation.
Admins and users don’t directly create or modify individual federated repositories. On member sites, federation definition options are no longer available in repository management pages of the JFrog Platform interface.
You indirectly determine the shape of these repository federations when you assign a stage to each repository, and define stage-to-site mapping. Platform Federation automatically federates repositories on sites solely based on the stage-site mapping..
Q : But I need to provision a local repository on one site….
A : Don’t assign the repository to any of the global stages used for stage-site mapping. Platform Federation ignores unmapped repositories, and they remain local.
Q: Why can’t I delete a repository?
A: What do you want to delete?
- I want to remove the repository from this site only. Think of this as changing the provisioning pattern/topology for the repository. To do this, change the stage assigned to the repository to a stage with the desired provisioning topology. You may need to define a new global stage that maps the desired topology.
- I want to delete the repository across the Platform Federation. To remove this repository from all sites, first uncouple it from automatic federation: edit the repository and remove all the site-mapping stages that are assigned to it. Each instance of the unmapped repository is now local. Delete the repository on each site that hosts it.
Federation options are unavailable in Repository management screens.
You cannot define a repository federation or directly configure the federated sites that host a repository.
Global Entities Simplify Deployment
Q : We just signed a strategic merger.
A : Migrate the acquired assets to a JFrog site, and add it to the Platform Federation. Your access settings, project definitions, security and governance policies - the corporate best practice of your multisite workspace - are immediately applied to the new site, and new assets are available across your organization.
